7 Card Brag
Maureen Wells ‘Nana’

Children Should Be Seen and Not Heard was a remote project as part of NI Mental Health Arts Festival in 2020 during a period of restricted travel. This project required the participation of my family, all of whom were locked down across the UK.

Up to seven adult players can join play if; 1) they learnt the rules quickly and 2) provided their own coins for the kitty. Children who are not in bed, can be utilised to fetch cans of bitter - preferably John Smiths - for experienced players. Seven Card Brag is a regularly play-at-home card game on a recently polished table or flat surface (polishing allows cards to slide more easily during dealing, this safeguards against accidental ‘flippage’) The game is played at a pace to allow the kitty to build up requiring a high level of concentration and wit to win.
