GINTLÍOCHT - Ulster Folk Museum 2023

*Gintlíocht (gaeilge - béarla ‘sorcery, craft’)

An exhibition of new commissions by eleven artists and collectives based in Northern Ireland. Celebrating contemporary responses to a range of heritage skills and crafts present at the Ulster Folk Museum. The selected artists worked with craft demonstrators, folklife curators and first person interpreters on the site over a twelve month period to create site specific responses at this living museum. The artists were selected via open invitation through PS2 gallery and the emerging artists support programme with The Freelands Foundation.

This exhibition was supported by PS2 and The Freelands Foundation emerging artist programme.

Gintlíocht was part of the 2023 Linen Biennial and August Craft Month and featured artists; Susan Hughes, Tara McGinn, Dorothy Hunter, Gerard Casron, Soft Fiction Projects (Emily McFarland and Alessia Cargnelli) Emma Brennan, Grace McMurray and Sinéad Bhreathnach Cashell, Jayne Cherry and Alice Clark.
